Part B Course and Examinations
Overview
The Part B Course is a mandatory preparatory course leading to Part B of the Singapore Bar Examinations (the “Part B Examinations”). It is conducted by the SILE for qualified persons seeking admission as a Lawyer (Non-Practitioner) (“Lawyer (NP)”). 2 sessions of the Part B Course and Examinations are held each year.
Attending the Part B Course and passing the Part B Examinations are requirements for admission as a Lawyer (NP), pursuant to sections 13(d) and (e) of the Legal Profession Act 1966.
Eligibility
You must be a qualified person (under the Legal Profession (Qualified Persons) Rules) in order to attend the Part B Course and to sit for the Part B Examinations.

You may apply to take the Part B Course and sit for the Part B Examinations during the specified online application period.

The fee for the Course and Examinations is inclusive of a non-refundable administrative fee of S$545.
The applicable fees may change and are subject to review.
All fees are inclusive of:
- a personal LawNet account; and
- access to SILE Campus, an online learning portal to assist applicants in their self-preparation for the Examinations.

Part B Donated Bursaries Fund
The Institute is pleased to announce the launch of the Part B Donated Bursaries Fund. This new initiative is designed to support financially disadvantaged candidates for the Singapore Bar with their Part B Course and Examinations fees, and was established with the generous donations of members of the legal fraternity. The Part B Course will mainly comprise Practice Sessions and Contact Sessions (which are live sessions that candidates are expected to prepare for in advance) as well as self-study. Candidates are strongly encouraged to attend all Contact Sessions.
Attendance at the 3 Practice Sessions for Ethics & Professional Responsibility is mandatory. Candidates must attend all of them to be considered as having completed the Part B Course.
Part B candidates who have been conditionally accepted will be granted access to the SILE’s online learning portal, SILE Campus, to access the Course materials such as video lectures, syllabus, learning plan and/or reading lists. Access will be granted approximately one week before the start of the Part B Course.
Other essential documents, such as the Part B Course Handbook and the Code of Conduct, will also be made available on SILE Campus.
Examination Details
From 2025 onwards, there will be 2 sessions of the Part B Examinations held each year. The Session 1 Examinations will be held in June while Session 2 Examinations will be held in December.
The Part B Examinations will be conducted over a period of 8 days, with reserve dates for the Examinations in case of unforeseen circumstances.
All papers will use the open-book examination format. The modes of examination are tabulated below:

Practice Training Period Requirements – Courses conducted by the Law Society
Please note that beyond the Part B Course, practice trainees serving their practice training period under a practice training contract must also complete the following courses, prior to applying for admission to the Singapore Bar as an advocate and solicitor:
- An online training course on professional ethics (“e-Learning: Ethics in Practice”);
- An online training course on the Legal Profession (Solicitors’ Account) Rules (“e-Learning: Legal Profession (Solicitors’ Account) Rules”); and
- An Advocacy Workshop (“Practice Training Advocacy Course”)
These courses are conducted by the Law Society of Singapore and may be completed during the practice training period. More information on the three courses, including fees and sign-up links, can be found at the Law Society of Singapore’s website.
Those seeking to be admitted only as a Lawyer (NP) need not complete the Law Society courses.

No. You must attend and satisfactorily complete the Course and take the Examinations.
For completeness, all candidates must pass the Part B Examinations within 4 consecutive sessions, failing which they will be required to redo the Course before re-attempting the Examinations afresh. Otherwise, re-takers can sit for re-examinations without redoing the Course. Please refer to the Legal Profession (Admission) Rules 2024 for the specific requirements.

Upon submitting your online application successfully, you will receive an application confirmation email from the SILE. After the application period has closed, the SILE will assess all applications. The SILE will notify all applicants of the outcome of their applications by email by the date specified in the Part B Application Guide for the session of the Course and Examinations you are applying for.
You must ensure that you are a Qualified Person in order to take the Part B Course and Examinations. Qualified Persons who are neither Singapore citizens nor permanent residents will require a Student’s Pass to take the Part B Course, and may write to the SILE after submission of the online Part B Application at the following address:

Applicants who have missed the deadline may write in to the SILE with supporting reasons. The SILE retains the sole discretion to make any decision on late applications, including directing applicants who have missed the deadline to apply for the next available session of the Part B Course and Examinations.
Deferment of candidature is not permitted. Candidates who are unable to continue may withdraw from the Course and Examinations, and reapply at a later stage. Otherwise, Candidates may re-take any missed Examinations during subsequent sessions of the Course.

The administrative fee for applications for the Part B Course and Examinations is strictly non-refundable. Please refer to the Part B Application Guide.
Candidates who withdraw their candidature will only be eligible for a refund if they apply to withdraw before the applicable deadline as set out in the Part B Application Guide, and if they have completed the form and officially withdrawn their candidature. Any refund granted shall be in the SILE’s sole discretion. Refunds to candidates will only be paid via bank transfer. Please note that the administrative fee is strictly non-refundable.
You will need to indicate your existing and relevant medical conditions in the online application when applying for the Part B Course and Examinations. If you have not done so, you must notify the SILE as soon as possible, and in any event, prior to the Examinations, i.e., before the deadline as indicated in the Part B Application Guide.
There will be no supplementary examinations. Candidates who fail one or more modules will have to re-sit the papers for those modules in a subsequent session of the Part B Examinations. Candidates must pass all modules within 4 consecutive sessions of the Part B Examinations, failing which they will be required to re-do the Course before re-attempting the Examinations afresh. No, there is no appeal process. Any Part B Examination results that are released are final.
No, you cannot make payment using CPF. As for the use of your SkillsFuture Credits and/or Post-Secondary Education Account, please refer to the Part B Application Guide, which will be made available during the online application period.
