Admission to the Singapore Bar

Overview

A qualified person may be admitted as a Lawyer (Non-Practitioner) (“Lawyer (NP)”) after they have attended the Part B Bar Course and passed the Part B Bar Examinations. A lawyer (NP) is an officer of the court and his or her name is entered on the roll of Lawyers (NP). However, to apply for a practicing certificate, a person must first be admitted as an advocate and solicitor.

A Lawyer (NP) may be admitted as an advocate and solicitor after serving a practice training period.

The requirements for admission are prescribed by the Legal Profession Act 1966 and the Legal Profession (Admission) Rules 2024. Other legislation relevant to the admissions process and requirements include the Legal Profession (Qualified Persons) Rules.
