Foreign Practitioner Examinations

FPE

Foreign-qualified lawyers who pass the FPE can apply to the Director of Legal Services under section 36B of the Legal Profession Act 1966 for registration to practise in permitted areas of Singapore law. The permitted areas would include areas such as banking and finance, mergers and acquisitions and intellectual property law. Foreign lawyers must have at least three years of relevant legal practice or work, which may be gained in Singapore or overseas, before they can apply to sit for the FPE.

The Legal Profession (Foreign Practitioner Examinations) Rules 2011, which came into force on 29 September 2011, set out the framework for the FPE. Please refer to Rule 4 for the eligibility requirements for registration to sit for the FPE.
