Implementation of Mandatory Ethics and Professional Responsibility Online Module for Part A Candidates
- The Singapore Institute of Legal Education (“SILE”) is introducing a new Ethics and Professional Responsibility online module (“Part A Ethics”) as a mandatory requirement for candidates undertaking the Part A Examinations, with effect from 2026 Part A Session 2.
- This initiative gives effect to Recommendation 6 of the Ethics and Professional Standards Committee’s Final Report released in January 2025, which recommended that “to inculcate the same values in the ethical consciousness of law graduates of overseas universities who seek to practise in Singapore, the ethics-related content from the law schools, where suitable, will be made available through the SILE as an online ethics course to be completed by graduates from overseas universities.”
- Part A Ethics has been developed to provide candidates with foundational training in legal ethics and professional standards, and to foster a common understanding of the ethical values and professional responsibilities expected of members of the Singapore legal profession.
- Prospective candidates will also be notified of this requirement upon commencement of the optional Part A Course and Examinations, via the Opening Brief and SILE Campus. For more information, please see SILE’s webpage at https://www.sile.edu.sg/the-singapore-bar-admission/part-a/.
