CPD

Phase 1 of the mandatory Continuing Professional Development scheme (CPD Scheme) was introduced on 1 April 2012. Phase 2 of the CPD Scheme commenced on 1 January 2015. Phase 3 of the CPD Scheme takes effect on 1 January 2017.

All advocates and solicitors admitted to the Singapore Bar and holding Singapore Practising Certificates, and foreign lawyers registered under section 36B of the Legal Profession Act 1966 must meet the CPD requirements set out in the Legal Profession (Continuing Professional Development) Rules 2012 ('CPD Rules') and the Guidelines made thereunder.

Under the CPD Rules, the Board of Directors of the Institute may appoint, from among the members of the Board or from other persons:

  1. an Accreditation Committee to do any of the acts under rule 4(1) of the CPD Rules;

  2. a Compliance Committee to do any of the acts under rule 5(1) of the CPD Rules; and

  3. a Programmes Committee to do any of the acts under rule 6(1) of the CPD Rules.
